Miva Open University has officially launched its Lagos Study Centre at 376 Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba, to expand access to higher education across Nigeria.
The inauguration, held on April 29, 2025, featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of the MIND (Miva Interactive Neural Dialogue) platform, an AI-powered learning companion designed to enhance student engagement.
The university, which began operations in 2023, aims to enrol 10,000 students by May 2025 and reach 20,000 by December 2025.
Its long-term goal is to become Africa’s first university with one million students, addressing Nigeria’s significant gap in tertiary education access.
Chancellor Sim Shagaya stated the pressing need for increased access to tertiary education in Nigeria.
“Out of 2.2 million Nigerians who sat for the UTME exams, only 600,000 university seats are available. We are leveraging technology and AI to serve the 1.5 million students who qualify for university admission each year but lack access,” he said.
The Lagos centre features a 197-computer CBT facility, a digital e-library, and modern study rooms, providing students with the resources they need to support their learning.
Miva offers affordable tuition fees, with undergraduate programmes ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦350,000 per year and MBA programs under ₦1 million.
The university provides flexible payment plans and accepts direct-entry students. All courses are approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
With the launch of the Lagos Study Centre, Miva Open University continues to redefine higher education in Nigeria, combining digital innovation with physical learning spaces to create a more inclusive and accessible academic environment.
