The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Bauchi Zone, has announced its plan to embark on strike due to the federal government’s refusal to address its issues.
The zone comprises six northern universities, including Bauchi State University, University of Jos, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Gombe State University, Plateau State University, and the Federal University, Kashere.
Prof. Timothy Namo, the union’s zonal coordinator, expressed his displeasure at the government’s refusal to grant their requests despite past warnings and the two-week warning strike.
Namo stated that, despite giving the government a one-month window to finalise their renegotiation, they have yet to take any action, even as the month is almost over.
“The remaining days to the expiration of the 4-week window must be tactfully and judiciously used to holistically resolve all outstanding issues, to uplift the living conditions of academics in Nigeria. The surest way to protect our children’s future is to massively invest in education,” Namo said.
