The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has raised concerns over the federal government‘s delays in renegotiation, noting that it could have severe consequences on the country’s education sector.
ASUU, in a statement signed by Prof. Chris Piwuna, its President, said that the emergency session held on October 21, 2025, led them to suspend their warning strike, despite the government’s offers being insufficient.
The union elaborated that the strike was suspended out of respect for the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the media, students, parents, and the government’s decision to conclude the renegotiation within a one-month window.
They added, “It is now the responsibility of the government to take advantage of this opportunity to quickly resolve all outstanding issues to keep our children in school.”
