The Vice Chancellor of Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), Air Vice Marshal (rtd) Prof Paul Jemitola, has announced the establishment of Africa’s first privately owned university dedicated to aeronautics and management studies.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Jemitola said that an aviation expert and entrepreneur, Engr, founded the institution. Isaac Balami, to address the continent’s growing demand for skilled aviation professionals. He cited projections by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that Africa would require over 65,000 aviation professionals by 2040, adding that IBUAM was designed to bridge that gap through world-class training and leadership development.
According to him, students will gain practical experience through over 1,000 hours of aircraft operation and access to digital simulation technologies from Boeing, Airbus, and Rolls-Royce.
Graduates, he said, could earn private or commercial pilot licences and internationally recognised aircraft maintenance certifications approved by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
Jemitola described the university as “a runway to the future of African aviation,” urging prospective students across the continent to apply through the institution’s website.
