Fourteen pharmacists have been inducted as Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy at its 2025 Annual General Meeting, held at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
The event also featured a valedictory session in honour of the late Chief Oludolapo Akinkugbe, the academy’s founding president and a pioneer in the pharmaceutical industry. NAPHARM also conferred honorary fellowships on four individuals and presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to three others.
Speaking at the valedictory, NAPHARM President, Prof Lere Baale, described Akinkugbe as a leader and statesman whose integrity and vision shaped generations of pharmacists. Akinkugbe, who died on September 22 at the age of 97, was widely regarded as a trailblazer in pharmacy, business, and corporate leadership.
The new Fellows include Samuel Adekola, Adenike Adenuga, Victor Afolabi, Olufunsho Awodele, Monica Eimunjeze, and others drawn from academia, industry, and practice.
Guest speaker and Group Managing Director of First HoldCo Plc, Wale Oyedeji, highlighted the role of pharmaceutical innovation in driving economic growth and national development. He called for stronger collaboration among government, academia, and investors to build a resilient health and industrial ecosystem.
The two-day meeting, held from October 15 to 16, brought together pharmacists, policymakers, and international partners to discuss how research and innovation can support Nigeria’s healthcare and development goals.
