Stakeholders have expressed support for the establishment of the African Aviation and Aerospace University during a public hearing organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation Technology in Abuja.
The committee said in a statement that the hearing was aimed at advancing legislative work on the bill seeking to formally establish the university through an Act of Parliament.
When operational, the university is expected to provide specialised training and research in aviation and aerospace technologies, making it one of the first of its kind in the region.
Representing the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ibrahim Kana, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the project and the need for legislative backing for its sustainability.
Pro-Chancellor of the university and former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Goni Aji, described the event as a significant step in institutionalising the institution through law.
Speaker of the House, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, represented by the House Leader, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, pledged the legislature’s full support for the bill. At the same time, the Committee Chairman, Tajudeen Abiodun, assured that the process would receive expedited attention.
The hearing drew participants from key aviation agencies, including the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
