The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured candidates that the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) will be conducted smoothly in Nigeria and abroad.
Speaking during a sensitisation campaign in Lagos, the Head of WAEC National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, said the council has successfully conducted five computer-based examinations, recording low malpractice rates and improved candidate performance. The programme took place at WAEC offices across Yaba, Ojo, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Maryland, and Surulere.
Dangut said the campaign aimed to familiarise candidates and schools with the new system, allowing them to practise ahead of the examinations. He added that CB-WASSCE would reduce fraud, prevent logistical challenges, and ensure timely and credible assessments.
The WAEC chief also addressed concerns about subject changes on the Continuous Assessment (CASS) portal. He clarified that some trade subjects, such as auto merchandising, were removed following government directives, while others were renamed with content unchanged. Dangut said WAEC is committed to using technology to advance education and assessment in Nigeria.
