Shalom Bamigboye has urged Nigerian students to deploy technology to address challenges in their immediate communities rather than seeking global recognition.
He made the call recently while delivering a virtual keynote address at the launch of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI) Tech Hub in Ikere-Ekiti. The lecture was titled “Solving Problems in Your Local Community with Technology.”
Bamigboye said the internet has created a global village, but it cannot automatically resolve local problems, insisting that responsibility rests with members of each community.
He explained that technology should not be limited to Silicon Valley products or international acclaim, but should focus on practical solutions to local needs. He urged students to channel innovation into schools, hostels, and towns where the impact will be direct.
He advised students not to wait for external intervention but to take initiative. “Begin now. Solve the problem in your hostel, your classroom, your town. When you solve for your community, the world takes notice,” he added.
