The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has announced plans to establish Raw Materials Testing and Analysis Centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to reduce reliance on foreign laboratories for product testing and certification.
Director-General of RMRDC, Professor Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, disclosed this in Abuja during the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the African University of Science and Technology (AUST). He said the first Centre would be located within the AUST campus as a pilot project.
According to him, the initiative will provide industries with world-class testing facilities for agricultural and mineral raw materials, helping Nigeria strengthen its industrial base and promote local innovation.
“With the Abuja testing centre, industries will no longer need to send materials abroad for quality verification,” Ike-Muonso said. “Our goal is to make Nigeria self-sufficient in testing and analysis while boosting manufacturing and exports.”
He added that the centres would also support postgraduate research in materials science, industrial chemistry, and mineral processing.
AUST President, Professor Peter Onwualu, said the partnership would enhance industrial self-reliance by supporting small and medium enterprises in meeting international quality standards.
