The International Trade Centre (ITC) has expressed interest in partnering with the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) on bio-vaccine development and other health-related research, including anti-malaria drugs, transgenic mosquitoes, and diabetes management.
ITC’s Programme Manager for Sector and Enterprise Competitiveness, Charles Lor, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to NABDA in Abuja, alongside Senior Officer for Trade Strategy and Competitiveness, Darius Kurek.
They were received by NABDA Director-General, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, who assured the delegation of the agency’s readiness to collaborate on biotechnological solutions to prevent disease outbreaks and improve public health outcomes in Nigeria.
Professor Mustapha said NABDA remains committed to building strategic partnerships with international organisations to advance research and innovation in biotechnology.
The ITC, a joint agency of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations, focuses on promoting sustainable trade, competitiveness, and enterprise growth globally.
The meeting is expected to pave the way for joint research projects and technology exchange between the two institutions, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s health biotechnology sector and boosting local capacity for vaccine and drug development.
