Bells University of Technology, Ota, has entered into a new partnership with the DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC) to improve research skills and academic excellence. The official signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place on May 30, 2025, with Bells University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeremiah O. Ojediran, and DIaDeRC Chair, Professor Evans Osauohien, representing their institutions.
The agreement, which will last five years and can be renewed, is focused on improving the research capacity of both institutions, especially in the area of grantsmanship (the skill of winning research grants). As part of the partnership, the two institutions will organise joint workshops, seminars, conferences, and training programmes. These events will help Bells University lecturers and staff develop key skills in writing research proposals, implementing projects, and publishing academic work.
DIaDeRC, which started in 2023, is a non-profit research centre dedicated to building human capacity in Africa. It is registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The organisation brings together experienced facilitators to train and guide researchers, while also promoting networking and knowledge sharing.
A joint working committee will be established to ensure the proper planning and smooth operation of the partnership. Both institutions believe that this partnership will lead to significant progress in research and education, enabling Nigeria and Africa to address development challenges through enhanced academic contributions. The collaboration is expected to have a lasting impact by helping more academics secure research funding, undertake meaningful projects, and share their findings with the world.
