A science student, Nwaorah Chidindu Emmanuel, has achieved an outstanding improvement in his 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score after being asked to resit the examination.
His initial result was 170, but after retaking the test, he scored an impressive 301.
This comes after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) discovered an error that affected the results of about 379,000 candidates and ordered them to retake the examination.
Following the release of the resit results, students have begun checking their new scores, with many showing significant improvement.
Education advocate Alex Onyia shared Nwaorah’s new result on X (formerly Twitter), revealing he scored 71 in English, 77 in Physics, 81 in Mathematics, and 72 in Chemistry.
Onyia stated, “This youngster was wrongly graded 170 due to the error and now has 301 in just 48 hours of preparation. Finally, our students have been vindicated.”
Commenting on the broader issue, Success Osaigbove, a teacher and computer centre operator, noted that many students struggle with the computer-based testing system.
He said he observed several students unable to use essential tools, such as the on-screen calculator, which hindered their progress during the examination.
Many others have come forward with similar experiences, reporting massive score increases after the resit.
For instance, a user on X shared how they increased their followers from 152 to 278.
While many celebrated the revised scores and JAMB’s decision to correct the error, some people still expressed concern about the unusually high number of top scores.
Meanwhile, a father checking his daughters’ UTME results on video also drew attention online, as many parents and guardians remain anxious about how the resit might impact their children’s admission prospects.
