Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has launched ten solar-powered tricycles to improve campus transportation and advance its commitment to environmental sustainability.
During the commissioning ceremony on October 20, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Haruna Musa, described the project as a landmark achievement aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and supported by TETFund. He said the initiative reflects BUK’s effort to integrate renewable energy solutions into its operations while easing mobility for students and staff.
“Today, we are delighted to receive ten solar-powered tricycles that will serve our campuses. An additional ten are expected soon, bringing our fleet—along with eight petrol-powered tricycles—to twenty-eight,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
Musa urged users to maintain the vehicles responsibly and embrace the innovation as part of the university’s vision for a cleaner, more efficient campus transport system.
The event was attended by top management officials, including Deputy Vice-Chancellors Prof Aliyu Muazu and Prof Amina Mustapha, Registrar Malam Haruna Aliyu, Bursar Malam Rabi’u Dauda, and University Librarian Dr Kabiru Dahiru Abbas.
