CITN Praised for Boosting Lagos Tax Revenue

Dr. Tunde Fowler, Former FIRS Chairman

Former FIRS Chairman, Dr Tunde Fowler, has credited the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) for significantly supporting Lagos State’s revenue growth during his tenure as LIRS Chairman in 2005. He spoke at a tribute event honouring CITN founder, Chief David Ajibola Olorunleke.

Fowler noted, “CITN helped Lagos State progress in tax revenue collection. The visionary behind CITN displayed extraordinary foresight at a time when Nigeria largely overlooked taxation.”

The event featured accolades from key figures, including CITN’s 17th President, Innocent Ohagwa, and ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, who described Olorunleke as a man of integrity whose contributions extended beyond professional leadership.

Represented by FIRS boss Zacch Adedeji, Mr Femi Oyebamiji highlighted Olorunleke’s mentorship, professionalism, and enduring impact on Nigeria’s tax administration. Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi also urged attendees to emulate his virtues.

Chief Olorunleke, who passed at 80, is remembered as the “Doyen of Taxation,” pioneering CITN and shaping Nigeria’s fiscal landscape.
