The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has introduced a new template to help State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) access intervention funds more efficiently and transparently.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a workshop held in Abuja, attended by representatives from SUBEBs across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba explained that the new template is designed to remove delays and unnecessary bureaucracy, ensuring funds reach schools and communities that need them the most.
She said the move is part of the federal government’s efforts to improve basic education through four key pillars: increasing access for rural and underserved areas, improving the quality of teaching and learning, ensuring the proper use of education finances, and strengthening monitoring systems.
The new template also aligns with the government’s Hope Education Project, which rewards states that use their resources wisely to boost education standards.
According to Garba, the template will guide SUBEBs in preparing clear work plans to access UBE funds and implement projects that support these goals.
Deputy Executive Secretary (Services) Tunde Ajibolu added that cooperation among stakeholders is crucial for the success of the new system.
He said the template will simplify processes, reduce red tape, and make fund usage more transparent, ultimately leading to better educational outcomes for children across Nigeria.
The workshop gathered deans, chairmen, and desk officers from SUBEBs nationwide, marking a significant step toward improving basic education funding and delivery in Nigeria.
