Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) is seeking private sector investment to expand its infrastructure and research capacity, following the confirmation of Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha as substantive Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Omenugha recently concluded a strategic visit to Abuja aimed at engaging potential investors and exploring partnerships that could strengthen funding for academic programmes and campus development.
The university said the initiative is part of efforts to diversify funding sources beyond government allocations and to enhance facilities, research, and digital infrastructure. Details of specific investment plans or partner institutions were not disclosed.
Prof. Omenugha, who previously served as Commissioner for Basic Education in Anambra State, emphasised the importance of collaboration between public institutions and private stakeholders to enhance quality and sustainability in higher education.
COOU, formerly Anambra State University, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and has emphasised partnerships and innovation as part of its strategic agenda.
The university’s call for private sector involvement comes amid growing pressure on Nigerian universities to find alternative funding sources to support expansion, improve facilities, and provide students with enhanced research and learning opportunities.
