The Katsina State Government has revoked the licences of all private and community schools across the state, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced.
The directive, issued in a circular by Commissioner Zainab Musa-Musawa and released on Saturday, follows a sensitisation exercise on June 2, 2025, aimed at familiarising stakeholders with a new state policy on private and community schools.
The policy, part of the government’s broader educational reform agenda, seeks to ensure quality assurance, standardisation, and effective regulation of teaching and learning. Existing licences were terminated effective August 13, 2025, as approved by the State Executive Council.
The ministry has revised application, registration, annual renewal, and school upgrade fees. All affected schools are required to submit payment receipts for new licences to the ministry via the Department of Private and Community Schools, making payments exclusively to the state’s single treasury account by September 30, 2025.
Musa-Musawa stated that the move is aimed at enhancing supervision, promoting accountability, and ensuring the quality of education. Schools are expected to continue normal operations during the licence renewal process. The ministry also warned that revised fees must not result in increases in school fees without official approval.
