A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has pushed the trial of University of Lagos senior lecturer, Dr Samuel Obinna Ojogbo, to January 21, 2026. Justice Oyindamola Ogala issued the adjournment after brief proceedings on Wednesday.
Ojogbo, a lecturer in the Department of Finance, was initially arraigned on September 12, 2025, at the Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court in Ogba over allegations of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old 300-level student.
The student had reported to police on August 28 that the lecturer allegedly invited her to his office on August 22 and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her. She later received medical treatment.
In an affidavit, a police officer with the Gender Section, Theresa Temidayo, confirmed the assault allegation and requested Ojogbo’s remand for rape and sexual assault under Sections 260 and 263(1) of the Lagos Criminal Law.
He was later granted bail in the sum of N1.5 million, with stringent surety conditions, which he fulfilled.
At the High Court, Ojogbo appeared with two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Ade Adedeji and Bidemi Bello. Court observers, however, expressed concern that the cordial exchanges between the judge and defence counsel could undermine confidence in the trial’s neutrality.
