Cowrie 25 Club Awards Scholarships to UNIBEN, AAU Students
The Cowrie 25 Club has awarded scholarships to undergraduate students of the University of Benin and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, reaffirming its commitment to supporting high-performing and indigent students from Edo South Senatorial District.
The ceremony, held at Rev. Dundon Hall, UNIBEN, was attended by representatives of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie (SAN), the Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, and traditional rulers, including Chief Edionwe Oliha and Chief Igbinenikao Edohen.
Dr Toni Ogunbor, Chairman of the Education Committee, said the initiative reflects the Club’s mission to invest in Edo South’s human capital. He noted that members, including industrialists, engineers, bankers and medical professionals, are giving back to ensure students have access to quality education.
The Club has established a N100 million Education Trust Fund to sustain scholarships over the long term. Since restructuring the programme, 91 students have benefited over the past three years.
The scholarship, valued at N100,000 annually for general awards and N200,000 for merit-based Cowrie Scholars, targets 200-level students in fields including Accounting, Law, Engineering, ICT, Medical Sciences, and Education, with priority given to those with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 and limited financial means.
Engr Osa Owieadolor, Secretary of the Education Committee, said the Club hopes to expand support further as beneficiaries continue to excel academically.
