Abuja will host the Crown Elite All-Star Basketball Weekend from August 22 to 24, with top teams and players from across Nigeria set to feature.
The men’s basketball champions of the Nigerian University Games, Nile University, will take part alongside Gboko City Chiefs of the national league, Hoatcoal Basketball Foundation, and other sides. Matches will be staged at the Mo Arena Sports Hall.
One of the highlights will be the All-Star clash between the Oceanic and Sahel Conferences. Nile University’s Hamza Abubakar will lead the Sahel side, while Rivers Hoopers coach Ogoh Odaudu, recently named Basketball Africa League Coach of the Year, will guide the Oceanic team.
Organisers say the weekend is more than just basketball. Crown Elite founder Hanson Oguche described it as a celebration of both sport and education. “This edition promises to be thrilling, as it celebrates basketball in Nigeria while also honouring the importance of education among athletes,” he said.
Fans can also expect slam dunk and three-point contests. The event will conclude with an exclusive awards night recognising players, coaches, officials and other key figures in Nigerian basketball.
