Rival cults in Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, clashed on Tuesday, November 2, 2025, resulting in the death of Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, a former student of the institution and the head of one of the groups.
The clash occurred after an argument broke out when one of the rival groups took a picture without permission.
In a statement issued by Halimat Garba, the polytechnic’s public relations officer, the institution’s security division responded promptly to the incident and has arrested suspects.
The management stated, “The Polytechnic condemns in stronger terms any form of violence and illegal activities within and around the institution. We deeply regret the loss of life and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The management is cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
