DELSU Student Suspended Over Video of Dying Peer

Delta State University, Abraka, has suspended a 200-level Microbiology student, Ezi Ugoma, for four semesters after she filmed a dying fellow student at the university health centre and shared the footage on TikTok.
The decision follows hearings by the university’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee in August 2025, which found Ugoma in breach of the institution’s matriculation oath. The suspension, communicated in an official letter dated October 21, aims to reinforce the university’s rules on conduct and digital ethics.
The incident has triggered strong reactions online. Some social media users criticised Ugoma’s actions. Godwin James wrote: “If she were the only one who could have helped, and chose to film instead, she should be expelled.” Others commented on the moral implications, with Etogor Etogor calling her “intelligent academically, but morally foolish.”
A few users, however, highlighted the culture of content sharing among students. SWIFT MEDIA WORLD observed: “They think everything is content so that she will get reactions.”
The case underscores growing concerns about student ethics and privacy in the digital age, prompting universities to emphasise both behavioural conduct and responsible social media use among students.
