E-Learning Boosts TB, HIV Training for Health Workers

Over 2,100 health workers across Nigeria have been trained on tuberculosis and HIV management through an e-learning platform developed by the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) in partnership with Instrat.

IHVN Programme Manager, Dr Adekola Adekunle, said the platform, relaunched in August 2024 with Global Fund support, covers 363 local government areas and targets doctors, nurses, and community health workers in private hospitals.

He explained that the platform was introduced to address staff turnover and the need for continuous capacity building. The digital courses, accessible via smartphones, tablets, and computers, include modules on TB identification, diagnosis, treatment, and the management of drug-resistant TB.

Adekunle added that the initiative has proven efficient and affordable, enabling health workers to train without interrupting their duties.

Instrat’s Senior Manager, Augusta Kalu, noted that over 95% of participants expressed satisfaction with the training’s relevance and delivery, while follow-up measures have been implemented to boost participation.

IHVN, in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, aims to enhance TB and HIV case detection and treatment through sustained digital learning and private-sector engagement.
