The Ebonyi State Government has received the report from a panel investigating the partial collapse of Pentagon Hostel at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo. The two-storey student hostel, near the university’s main gate, recently partly collapsed, damaging students’ belongings but thankfully causing no deaths.
The Commissioner for Capital City and Urban Development, Hon. Sunday Inyima, said the government will now involve certified engineers, architects, surveyors, and estate valuers in building projects and approvals to prevent future collapses.
He commended the panel for their thorough work and assured that the findings would be carefully reviewed before being sent to Governor Francis Nwifuru for further action. Inyima added that the report is important for public safety and building standards in the state. He said the government wants to learn lessons from this incident to avoid similar accidents in the future.
