Edo Government Clarifies: Educational Tablets Not Withdrawn, Content Being Updated

The Edo State Government has addressed circulating rumours suggesting the discontinuation of educational tablets in public schools.

  Mrs Onomen Goodness Briggs, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), clarified in Benin City on Monday that the tablets remain integral to the state’s e-learning initiatives. 

She explained that the government is updating the content on these devices to align with the current Universal Basic Education curriculum, replacing outdated materials provided by previous consultants.

Introduced in 2018 under the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme, these tablets have enhanced digital learning across the state. 

Over 600,000 pupils have benefited from EdoBEST, with more than 12,000 tablets distributed to teachers and students. 

The initiative has also provided digital skills training to 16,000 teachers, aiming to enhance teaching quality and improve learning outcomes. 

Mrs. Briggs stated that the physical devices are state-owned assets, and the current efforts focus on developing new, locally-produced content. 

This move ensures relevance to the updated curriculum and positions Edo State to offer its educational content to other regions, creating additional revenue streams.

The state’s commitment to digital education remains steadfast, with ongoing investments in infrastructure, teacher training, and content development to ensure that students receive quality education that meets contemporary standards.
