Paddy Iyamu, the Edo State Commissioner for Education

Paddy Iyamu, the Edo State Commissioner for Education, has revealed that the state has repossessed 25 schools from land grabbers since Monday Okpebholo became governor in November 2024.

While addressing journalists on Sunday, November 22, 2025, the commissioner noted that the state has also renovated 68 schools to provide a conducive learning environment for students.

According to him, the development has attracted 1,000 students from private schools into public schools in the state.

He elaborated, “For instance, in Army Day Secondary School, there were about 502 students, Evbareke had about 350, while Uyiosa was labelled a dead school. Nevertheless, today we have over 3,000 students in those schools.”

Speaking further, he mentioned that 4,000 teachers who were hired on contract by the last administration and 1,000 engaged by the communities have been given full employment.
