The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has described the donation of the Model College, Onijaganjagan, as a temporary take-off site for the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences, Abeokuta, as a timely and strategic intervention that will eliminate infrastructural delays and fast-track the commencement of the university’s academic programmes.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, the minister stated that the gesture reflects Governor Dapo Abiodun’s strong commitment to education and exemplifies visionary leadership and effective collaboration between the federal and state governments.
Dr Alausa noted that the donation addresses a critical infrastructural gap, especially given that the university had only secured limited funding for preliminary activities such as perimeter fencing.
He added that the Ogun State Government’s intervention would facilitate a smoother and faster start to the institution’s operations, laying a solid foundation for delivering high-quality, specialised education in the health sciences.
The minister further remarked that the support aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ministry’s Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), which prioritises key areas such as STEMM education, reducing the number of out-of-school children, strengthening technical and vocational education and training (TVET), promoting girl-child education, advancing digitalisation and data use, and enhancing quality assurance.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Alausa extended sincere appreciation to Governor Abiodun and the people of Ogun State for what he described as a bold and exemplary contribution.
He said the initiative stood as a powerful demonstration of how state-level action could complement federal efforts to drive sustainable national development.
“We are confident that this noble act will deliver lasting dividends—nurturing a healthier, better-educated generation equipped to build a resilient and prosperous Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
