Dr Tunji Olowolafe, the Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, has outlined a detailed framework for fixing Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Delivering his keynote speech on ‘Reversing Medical Tourism, Africans Investing in Africa’ at the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) conference, he mentioned that reversing medical tourism can reduce Africa’s annual losses.
He stressed that Africa loses $7 billion yearly, while Nigeria loses $2 billion, causing the continent’s capacity, hope, and confidence to be eroded.
The chancellor admonished the NMA to collaborate with the government, development partners, the private sector, private equity players, and the diaspora in developing evidence-based policies.
Additionally, he noted that the NMA is responsible for ensuring that the healthcare transformation plan in Nigeria is implemented in all states.
