Dr. Idonuagbe Akogun, founded the Electronic Education Initiative (E-DON)
Students at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Minna, have called on the government at all levels to scale up electronic learning interventions nationwide.
They praised the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), led by Arch Sonny Ochono, and the Electronic Education Initiative (E-DON), founded by Dr Idonuagbe Akogun, for their contributions to digital education.
Comrade Japhet Paul, Student Union Government Secretary, highlighted initiatives such as ClassPoint, the E-DON 3D Visualisation SIM PRO Software, and the QR Interactive Board deployed by TETFUND, noting that these tools have significantly enhanced teaching and learning in higher education. He also commended the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the Federal Ministry of Education for their continued support of e-learning.
Akogun’s initiative, representing ClassPoint in Africa, leverages AI-powered tutors, virtual classrooms, and interactive platforms to bridge educational gaps, including those faced by students in remote areas.
While these technologies improve accessibility, real-time learning, and personalised instruction, students noted challenges including poor internet connectivity, limited access to devices, affordability issues and concerns over reduced human interaction.
The students urged sustained investment in digital infrastructure and expanded e-learning programmes to fully harness technology’s potential in transforming Nigeria’s education system.
