The Federal Government has approved the establishment of two major institutions in Gombe State—a Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Billiri and a Federal College of Education (Special) in Dukku.
This was announced in a statement by the Director-General of Press Affairs to the Governor, Ismaila Misilli. He said the development followed the signing of two crucial bills by President Bola Tinubu aimed at improving specialised healthcare and inclusive education in the North-East.
The new Federal College of Education (Special), Dukku, will focus on training teachers to support students with special needs. It is expected to help close the gap in inclusive education by producing qualified educators for learners with disabilities. With this move, Gombe is expected to become a key centre for inclusive education in the region. The Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Billiri will provide advanced treatment for trauma and bone-related issues. It will also help reduce the burden on overstretched hospitals in other parts of the country, especially in the North-East. The hospital will serve patients in Gombe and neighbouring states, improving access to quality healthcare.
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya thanked President Tinubu for approving the projects and promised full support to ensure the smooth take-off of both institutions. He stated that the initiatives would enhance healthcare and education, generate employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth in the state. The governor also appreciated the efforts of bill sponsors Ali Isa and Abdullahi El-Rasheed, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, for making the new laws possible.
According to him, this move supports the federal government’s plan to bring critical services closer to the people and improve the lives of vulnerable communities.
