No fewer than 10,000 staff members from universities and polytechnics across Nigeria have begun intensive training in digital literacy under a government-backed scheme.
The initiative, known as the 2025 Advance Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI), is being implemented by the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) with full sponsorship from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Training centres opened this week at the University of Ilesa in Osun State, the Nigeria Army University in Biu, Rivers State School of Nursing Sciences and Management Technology in Port Harcourt, and the Federal University in Birnin Kebbi. Each of about 100 institutions nationwide is expected to have 100 participants.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Prof Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, said the programme underscored the federal government’s commitment to equipping educators with skills in data analysis, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. He described advanced digital knowledge as crucial for improving teaching, learning, and research.
DBI officials said the programme was designed to strengthen the adoption of ICT tools in classrooms and research environments. The organisers urged participants to make full use of the opportunity, describing the training as a step towards building a digitally empowered academic community.
