The federal government (FG) has announced the disbursement of ₦3.7 billion to staff of tertiary institutions under the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF).
Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, described the funding as the government’s appreciation for the education workforce.
In a statement signed by Folasade Boriowo, the TISSF Director of Press and Public Relations, the initiative is a flagship programme under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at boosting staff motivation in the education sector.
The statement also mentioned that the fund distribution covered both academic and non-academic staff.
However, the Ministry of Education disclosed that only 17 per cent of the beneficiaries are academic staff, while 83 per cent are non-academic staff.
In the same vein, it noted the gender imbalance in the rollout, with 83 per cent male and 17 per cent female.
