The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) has launched the Nigeria Farmers Soil Health Scheme (NFSHS), a component of the Nigerian Presidential Soil Health Initiative.
The scheme represents the country’s commitment to strengthening soil fertility, ensuring long-term food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Lionel Axel Kadja, Director, Regional Hub, in his remarks, expressed, “IITA-CGIAR, through the Regional Hub, is actively engaged with FMAFS, at the strategic level to discuss plans for the country and at the ground level where soil sampling activities are underway, alongside our work on the formulation of new fertilisers adapted to specific crops such as maise and rice.”
The director added that in line with the Nairobi Declaration, the Presidential Soil Health Initiative represents a political commitment to soil health and fertiliser management.
