FME Boosts Staff Capacity with Workshop on Strategic Communication

To strengthen communication efficiency across its departments, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has organised a two-day in-house capacity-building workshop for selected Press Unit, ICT Department, and School Services Support Department staff.

Chaired by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the workshop focused on equipping participants with practical skills for strategic communication. In her opening remarks, Mrs Folasade emphasised the importance of communication in the public service and urged the participants to pay close attention throughout the sessions. She highlighted that the knowledge gained would improve their competencies and contribute to the ministry’s overall communication output.

The training sessions were led by Dr. Oluwashola Mary Okpodu, a seasoned communication expert and consultant from the PLANE (Partnership for Learning for All in Nigerian Education) initiative. Dr. Okpodu delivered a series of engaging presentations covering various aspects of communication strategy. These included strategic planning, public speaking, effective press release writing and reconstruction, identification and justification of different types of reports, and techniques for organising scattered content into coherent narratives.

A key highlight of the workshop was the practical session on scriptwriting and content structuring, which allowed participants to translate theoretical knowledge into hands-on practice. Dr. Okpodu emphasised the need for continuous improvement and innovation in communication, encouraging participants to develop strategies that meet the demands of modern information delivery.

The two-day training was widely regarded as a successful and well-coordinated exercise. Participants expressed satisfaction with the practical and interactive nature of the sessions, describing the experience as enriching and timely.

Through initiatives like this, the Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms its commitment to capacity building and institutional strengthening, focusing on enhancing internal and external communication.
