On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Rotary Club of Edjeba, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Carlton, Rotary Foundation, and Rotary International District 9141, launched a solar-powered e-library at Edjeba College in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State.
The project involved converting a previously unused toilet block into a functional library equipped with over 2,000 books and solar-powered electricity.
During the commissioning ceremony, District Governor Chinedu Ikegwuani urged the school to maintain the facility, stating its alignment with Rotary International’s focus on basic education and literacy.
He noted that the library would significantly benefit students by providing access to essential learning resources.
President of the Rotary Club of Edjeba, Kenneth Okpeahior, stated that the initiative was driven by the need to improve students’ academic performance, which had been hindered by the lack of a library.
He also mentioned that the club expects an additional 3,000 books from international partners to further enrich the library’s collection.
The school’s Vice Principal (Administration), Mrs. Agbateyiniro Onajite, expressed gratitude on behalf of the principal, Mrs. Mayuku, acknowledging the Rotary Clubs’ efforts in enhancing the school’s educational infrastructure.
Dr Samson Ughejieh, Chief Inspector of Education in Warri, and Hon. Terence Eriye, representing the Edjeba community, also commended the project, recognising its potential to uplift the standard of education in the area.
