The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has commended Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) for its effective use of allocated funds and successful completion of projects.
This recognition came during a familiarisation visit by Hon. Sunday Adepoju, a TETFund Board of Trustees member representing the Southwest geopolitical zone.
During the visit, Adepoju toured TETFund-sponsored projects from 2020 to 2023 and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the absence of abandoned projects.
He noted that the college’s integration of theoretical and practical knowledge has enhanced the training of Nigerian youths.
In addition to infrastructure development, YABATECH has been proactive in research and innovation.
The college received a ₦34 million grant from TETFund’s National Research Fund to develop an AI-based precision medicine solution for prostate cancer treatment.
This project involves collaboration with experts from Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and the University of Lagos.
YABATECH’s commitment to education and development is further demonstrated by establishing a Workplace Learning Hub at Ikeja Computer Village.
This initiative aims to provide students with industry-relevant skills, particularly in the ICT sector.
The college has also benefited from philanthropic contributions, including 150 hectares of land donated by former Lagos State Permanent Secretary Tunde Fanimokun.
This land is designated for creating a Green Campus, focusing on sustainable development and entrepreneurship.
President Bola Tinubu’s administration has supported tertiary education, approving over ₦700 billion for TETFund allocations in 2025.
This funding aims to enhance infrastructure, research, and academic development across Nigerian institutions.
