Federal Government Orders Universities to Account for Unused TETFund

The Federal Government has given all tertiary institutions in Nigeria 30 days to submit detailed reports on unutilised funds received from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, issued the directive during a meeting with heads of universities, polytechnics, and colleges in Abuja. He said many schools have left important TETFund allocations idle due to bureaucracy and poor planning, slowing down development in the education sector.

Dr Alausa warned that, henceforth, any unspent money without a valid reason would be withdrawn and redirected to other priority projects. He also announced that institutions must align their procurement plans with approved interventions and fast-track project approvals.

The minister added that capacity-building and mentorship programmes would soon begin to strengthen project management and reporting. He said schools that fail to use their TETFund allocations properly will face sanctions, as the government aims to ensure every kobo benefits Nigerian students.
