The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has demanded a written apology from Folasade Adebayo, a staff member who previously accused Vice Chancellor Sunday Fasina of sexual harassment. The council, chaired by Victor Ndoma-Egba, insists Adebayo must apologise for media reports that exposed Fasina’s misconduct.
Fasina, a professor of pedology, had reportedly exploited his position to demand sexual favours from Adebayo, then Deputy Director at the Directorate of Works and Services. Despite multiple rejections, the Vice-Chancellor allegedly resorted to public humiliation and intimidation. An internal panel later cleared Fasina of wrongdoing and directed Adebayo to apologise for bringing the institution “into disrepute.” Adebayo, who was not given access to the panel’s report, rejected its outcome in a formal letter to the council. Her request for a re-evaluation was denied.
In April, Fasina proceeded on leave and was temporarily replaced by Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu. Now, over 80 days into Shittu’s acting tenure, the council is insisting that Adebayo comply within 14 days, per a memo issued in early July by university registrar Mufutau Ibrahim. Sources claim Fasina has also filed a defamation suit against Adebayo and obtained an injunction blocking the ICPC from probing the matter. It remains unclear what action the council will take if Adebayo refuses to apologise.
