The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has qualified 83 athletes for the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) scheduled to hold at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) from November 5 to 15, 2025.
The athletes secured their spots after an impressive showing at the NUGA Zone D Preliminaries hosted by Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), from September 18 to 21, 2025. FUOYE competed in various events, including athletics, football, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, judo and scrabble.
According to the Head of the Sports Unit, Mr Christopher Obajaja, FUOYE’s qualification in new categories such as swimming, tennis, and table tennis marks a new feat in the university’s sporting development. He commended the management for its support and called for greater investment in sports infrastructure to enhance performance.
Obajaja expressed hopes that the athletes would not only participate but also excel at the NUGA Games. The university’s contingent is currently in intensive training ahead of the national competition.
