A fresh set of professionals has completed a World Bank-backed training in sustainable environmental and social standards at the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna).
The three-week Track B Advanced Certificate Course, which concluded on Friday, was organised under the Sustainable Procurement, Environmental, and Social Standards Enhancement (SPESSE) project through the Institute of Procurement, Environmental, and Social Standards (IPESS) at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi.
The programme began with a virtual session on September 1 before moving to two weeks of in-person training. It focused on strengthening participants’ skills in Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), applying international frameworks such as the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework, and managing environmental issues in project delivery.
Speaking at the valedictory session, Dr MacSamuel Ugbaa, representing the IPESS Centre Leader, described the graduates as “pacesetters” and urged them to use their knowledge for the benefit of their communities.
Class governor, Dr Deborah Bako, thanked organisers and called on colleagues to put the lessons into practice. The Niger State Coordinator, Prof Isreal Olayemi, confirmed that certificates would be issued to successful participants.
