Gani Adams Calls for Free Education, Revival of Dilapidated Infrastructure

The need to provide a conducive environment and essential facilities that facilitate learning in educational institutions has been emphasised as key to achieving positive outcomes for students at all levels. The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, made the call while delivering the keynote address at the first reunion and 38th anniversary of the Alumni of Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School, Surulere (AUDSS 87/88 GOLD).

Iba Adams, speaking on the theme, “Back to our root, from seed to legacy – how far we have grown,” called on governments at various levels to replicate what the Unity Party of Nigeria-led government of Chief Lateef Jakande did in Lagos State, by encouraging everyone to get basic education through its free education initiative.

Adams recalled how the state government typically provided all students with free textbooks, notebooks, and mathematical sets at the start of every term. He also recalled how public pipe-borne water taps were available in strategic locations along the streets at that time, ensuring that students had access to water to drink and refresh themselves while trekking long distances from school to their homes.
