The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) says it has completed 19 projects aimed at improving education for girls in Zamfara State.
State Coordinator, Hajjiya Sa’adatu AbduGusau, announced the progress in Gusau on Sunday while presenting the programme’s fact sheet for August 2024 to July 2025. She noted that although AGILE began late in Zamfara, it had already boosted enrolment and the quality of learning.
According to the report, 340,642 learning materials were distributed, 9,906 desks were supplied, 590 classrooms were renovated, and 185 modern toilets were constructed. The initiative also built 115 boreholes, provided cash transfers to more than 8,000 adolescent girls, and renovated 38 women’s centres.
Other interventions included life skills training, community sensitisation across more than 6,000 communities, and the enrolment of 571 girls through back-to-school campaigns. To strengthen digital literacy, AGILE distributed 1,100 desktop computers and trained 103 computer teachers.
Commissioner for Education, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, praised the achievements, describing AGILE as a priority of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration. He said the programme had delivered “remarkable results in a short time” and called on the media to continue promoting awareness around girls’ education.
