Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, through its Directorate of Entrepreneurial Studies, is set to produce 120 viable student-led micro-businesses by the end of the 2025/2026 academic session.
Under the Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion, Sustainability (STEP-S) Project, the initiative currently trains over 650 students. The programme, a collaboration involving Nigeria, Germany, South Africa and Kenya, focuses on equipping young adults with the knowledge and confidence to pursue entrepreneurial careers.
Director of the Directorate, Mr Christopher Uwakwe, said the programme aims to help students identify and address real-world challenges through innovation. He added that outstanding business ideas would be mentored at the GO-Startup Incubation Foundation (GO-SIF) for acceleration and scaling.
Uwakwe noted that about 15 per cent of participants have shown strong potential to launch businesses and would receive seed funding to establish their ventures, repay the central fund, and retain profits after 12 weeks.
Some participants commended the training for enhancing their teamwork and business development skills while urging the university to engage more industry professionals to deepen practical learning.
