A group of concerned staff at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has urged the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, to suspend the ongoing vice-chancellorship selection process, citing irregularities and lack of transparency.
The group alleged that the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, and the Governing Council Chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, are fast-tracking the process to install their preferred candidate, Prof Joshua Ogunwole.
A member of the group, who spoke anonymously, claimed that 78 candidates applied for the position, but only 10 were shortlisted without clear criteria being established. He alleged that the council planned to conduct interviews and announce the new Vice-Chancellor on the same day.
“These people are working tirelessly to impose their choice. How do you interview 10 candidates in one day and announce one immediately?” he questioned.
The group called on the minister to investigate the process and initiate a credible selection exercise to protect the institution’s integrity.
