Hadi Sirika Appointed Pro-Chancellor of Katsina University

Hadi Sirika, former Aviation Minister

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has appointed former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU) Governing Council.
The four-year appointment, effective from October, was announced by the state government’s press office.

Sirika is currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over two separate alleged fraud cases totalling over N22 billion, including a N1.5 billion Katsina Airport contract linked to his family and alleged N19.4 billion in other contracts during his tenure. All defendants have pleaded not guilty.

The Katsina government justified the appointment, citing Sirika’s “outstanding qualities and performance over the years,” with the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, extending congratulations and wishing him success in his new role.

The decision has sparked debate over ethical standards, as it coincides with Sirika’s ongoing trials. He also holds the traditional title of Marusan Katsina in Shargalle, Dutsi Local Government Area, a ceremonial role without executive powers.
