Prof. Bashir Garba, VC of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUSOK)
The House Committee on University Education has summoned the Vice-Chancellor of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUSOK), Prof. Bashir Garba, over alleged poor implementation of the 2023 budget.
Committee Chairman Rep. Abubakar Fulata (APC-Jigawa) said Garba and his management team must appear before the panel on Monday, warning that failure to comply could result in the issuance of an arrest warrant.
The committee noted attempts to withhold documents needed to assess the university’s operations. Despite repeated requests, the vice-chancellor has not submitted records for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 budgets.
“When the committee visited the university, the vice-chancellor was absent, and officials on site lacked the necessary documents,” Fulata said.
He stressed that the review is intended to ensure transparency and to allow the National Assembly to respond effectively to the institution’s challenges.
The chairman also warned North-West University managements against discriminatory practices in staff appointments, promotions, and student admissions, emphasising the need for fairness and accountability across all institutions.
