The Imo State Government has released a memo halting the graduation ceremonies of kindergarten, nursery, and Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 students.
The memo, signed by Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha, the state’s commissioner for education, and addressed to parents, guardians, and stakeholders, also specified that textbook use will now be extended from one to four years.
According to the government, only Primary Six and Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3 students will have graduation ceremonies. Likewise, the prolonged textbook use will reduce parents’ financial burdens and allow for reuse. The government stressed that the policy will restrict exploitation and ensure teaching uniformity.
