INEC Commissioner, Donates Moot Parliament House to EKSU

MOOT-PARLIAMENT-HOUSE

A National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Kunle Ajayi, has built and donated a new Moot Parliament House to the Department of Political Science at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti.

Professor Ajayi, who is also an alumnus and lecturer in the department, currently serves as a National Commissioner for Southwest Nigeria at INEC. He handed over the completed building to the university during a special event held to mark the donation.

In his speech, Professor Ajayi thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatola Ayodele, and the university authorities for accepting his proposal and allowing him to carry out the project. He praised the Vice-Chancellor for being a forward-thinking leader and said the donation was his small way of giving back to the school that trained him. He explained that the project’s goal was to help students move beyond theory and gain practical knowledge in the areas of democracy and governance. He said the Moot Parliament would serve as a learning lab where students can simulate parliamentary debates and gain hands-on experience.

According to him, the facility will also benefit the National Association of Political Science Students (EKSU Chapter) and help the department meet the requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for future programme accreditation. In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Babatola Ayodele thanked Professor Ajayi on behalf of the university’s Governing Council. He assured him that the building would be used and maintained appropriately.

The Vice-Chancellor also used the occasion to appeal to other well-meaning individuals and stakeholders to follow Professor Ajayi’s example and support the university. He urged the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Olu Olu Olufayo, and his team to take good care of the facility. After the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor led other senior university officials and staff on a tour of the new building.
