The Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a bill to establish the Kaduna State Senior Secondary Schools Education Board, aimed at strengthening the management of senior secondary education in the state.
The legislation, known as the Kaduna State Senior Secondary Schools Education Board Law, aligns with the 9-3-4 education structure mandated by the National Assembly.
The bill was adopted after the presentation of a report by Mahmud Lawal, Chairman of the House Committee on Education and a member representing Zaria City constituency. Lawal noted that the law is essential for streamlining the operations of senior secondary schools and incorporating the duties of the Teachers Service Board.
He added that establishing the board would position the state to benefit more effectively from federal government interventions targeted at senior secondary education.
In a related development, the Assembly also conducted the second reading of a bill seeking to establish the Kaduna State College of Agricultural Technology and Environmental Sciences in Saminaka, scheduled to commence operations in 2025.
During the debate, lawmakers considered amendments to the Kaduna State Traditional Institution Law No. 21 of 2021.
Henry Marah, Chairman of the Committee on Information and member representing the Jaba constituency, said the proposed changes aim to strengthen the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and social cohesion.
He clarified that while the amendment may not address all aspects of traditional governance, it is intended to improve institutional functions and enhance regional security measures.
The legislative activities underscore the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to reform education and reinforce traditional governance structures in Kaduna State.
