Kaduna State University Team Regenexx achieves finalist status in Corderina University challenge
A team of five students from Kaduna State University has reached the final stage of the Corderina University Challenge, a national competition rewarding innovation in sustainability.
The group — calling themselves Team Regenexx — secured their place after months of submissions, pitching rounds and mentorship sessions. Their project, Wrap2Grow, is a biodegradable plastic film that decomposes under the right conditions and enriches soil as it breaks down. A linked mobile app allows farmers to track the material’s degradation and use it as a natural fertiliser substitute.
Team members include Dada Adebola Victoria, who leads the project, alongside Idoko Delight Ihotu, Bako Nathaniel, Ishako Smith and Ibrahim Mubarak. They say their invention is aimed at reducing the burden of plastic waste while offering farmers a cheaper, environmentally-friendly alternative to chemical fertilisers.
University staff said the team’s progress reflects a growing culture of problem-solving on campus, with students increasingly turning classroom learning into practical solutions for local challenges.
The finalists will now compete for the top prize next year. The students said they hope their work will contribute to wider efforts to improve farming practices and cut pollution.
